ABOUT OUR MINISTRY
ministry teams

penner family
The Penner Family consists of Jake & Margie with four of their adult children (Julia, Tania, Tyrell, Lonita). After 14 years of being a full-time traveling ministry team, they have transitioned to doing only a few special events per year. They are very involved in the over-all administration of the HL Ministries in Arborg, MB and are assisting younger families who want to get started in senior ministry.

Loewen Family
After much prayer and consideration, the Loewen Family (consisting of Justen & Darlene and their 4 girls) from Riverton, MB is excited to join HL Ministries as a new singing team. They have been very involved in ministry to widows in western Manitoba and have a compassionate heart for those who are lonely. We are thrilled to have them on board, and will be scheduling one or two senior homes per month for them to do special music. Keep them in your prayers as they serve God in this way.

HISTORY
Harbour Lights Ministries was founded by the Jake Penner family in 2002 when they invited widows to their home for a Christmas banquet. They never expected this simple act of kindness to blossom into a full-time ministry reaching people all across North America.
In 2010 the doors opened for the Penner family to join Gospel Express Ministries as the Harbour Lights singing team. Through the connections made in prisons across Canada, United States, and Belize, they realized that they were singing to the fatherless. Unintentionally they found themselves ministering to both of the groups mentioned in James 1:27. “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”
Today Harbour Lights Ministries has an office in Arborg, MB, as well as a board of directors. They work under the legal umbrella of Open Air Campaigners (OAC), but are independently funded and directed. They have multiple ministry teams and dozens of volunteers across Manitoba. They minister through music, chalk art, seminars, and preaching in a variety of venues (churches, community centers, prisons, senior homes, etc.).
MISSION STATEMENT
We believe that our primary responsibility in this life is to fulfill the Great Commission; to preach the Gospel, disciple the saved, and show compassion unto the least of these (Matt. 28:19-20, Matt. 25: 31-46, James 1:27). This is our focus as we bring hope to seniors (especially the widowed) through music, sharing testimonies, honoring (Lev.19:32) them through widows’ banquets, and a card ministry. We are also called to preach the gospel in prisons (providing Bible study materials and teaching seminars), and to exhort fellow-believers in the churches.
Harbour Lights Ministries personnel are committed to work together in love with all born again Christians to accomplish this great task before the return of Jesus Christ, whose Kingdom shall have no end.
